Bangalore gets, yet another - Twestival. Party for a Cause.

With the advent of Social Media and Web 2.0 the world is now ‘Connected’. We can now connect to a larger - unknown - geographically diverse and scattered people for a reason you might just not know. The world has thus changed from a community of divided citizens to a smaller more connected community of netizens that care deeply about issues ranging from poverty and hunger to pollution, climate change and the environment.

To highlight one such burning issue, we netizens, bring to you ‘Twestival 2009 - a festival with a Cause’. A charity event taking place on September 11th/12th at one of Bangalore’s finest and most happening Pub.

Now, WHO we are ?  WHY are we doing it ? And, most of all - WHAT is the Purpose?
Here we go !

We are one of you, the youth, who have been moved by the reality that surrounds us, the reality that - We are Fortunate, Blessed and Happy - but there are many who are NOT.  As much as we find progress and development in today’s world, we have come to wake up to the fact that out there, there are a million children for whom, the simple dream of having a full stomach and a decent education still remains a Dream. It is this reality that has motivated us to come together and work for our Dream: a dream to Fulfill the dreams of many underprivileged young kids from Dream A Dream.

So heres the deal people, Twestival brings to you an evening loaded with energy, great Rock Bands, happening music and a cause to live it up, the proceeds of which will be given entirely to Dream A Dream. So come, lets make a difference and party for a cause, for the future of kids that some day might be future of our country and humanity as we know it. If you think having fun is all you could do - You can now have fun and also contribute to help a child live his or her Dream. Lets change the world, one kid at a time.

It all begins at Twestival - 12th September 2009, be there.”

for those of you who don’t know what the Twestival is all about:

“On 12 February 2009 100+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which bring together Twitter communities for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water.

…..

The Twestival is organized 100% by volunteers in cities around the world and 100% of the money raised from these events will go directly to support charity: water projects.

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

Many communities in developing nations often have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water just below the ground, but no way to get to it.

This is where charity: water and their partner organizations come in. Drilling a well can cost from $4,000 - $12,000 USD and many living on less than $1 a day cannot afford one in their community, even if the money is combined.

Twestival cities might consider setting a goal to raise enough money from their event to fund a well in Ethiopia which costs $4,000 USD.
